FAQ's

WHY DO YOU NEED A CPA?

Instead of just being a number cruncher and tax preparer, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) acts as an advisor to individuals, businesses and organizations on a number of financial matters.  We help you strategize to not only minimize your tax liability over the long haul but also how to improve your bottom line.  We’re available year-round to help you reach your financial goals as an individual or as a business.  CPA’s are also licensed by the state and must comply with continuing education requirements and are bound by a strict code of ethics to maintain their license.  Finally, a CPA can fully represent you before the IRS.  At Hollis & Honstein we stand behind every number we put on a tax return and are prepared to be your advocate before the IRS and state taxing authorities.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Because each tax return is different and has different complexities we do not charge a standard amount per form.  Which is why we cannot give you an estimate over the phone.  We bill by the hour, so you can help us keep your costs to a minimum by delivering your information in a neat, organized fashion.  The tax organizer we send out each year will help you organize your information to help us go through it quickly.  We treat all paperwork given to us as original copies and will return it to you once we have made copies of the data for our files.  The total bill will include the time it takes to prepare the return plus any applicable processing and computer charges.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept checks, credit cards and e-checks.

IF I WOULD LIKE TO BE A NEW CLIENT, WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO CONTACT YOU?

The best time to contact us is outside of tax season, generally between May and December.  This will give us time to go through your information and have a good base before we start preparing your taxes.  New clients that contact us during tax season are put on extension so that we can give you the proper attention and make sure we aren't missing anything.  We are generally available during office hours, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (MST) Monday-Friday.  If you need to meet outside of office hours, please contact us to make a special arrangement and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

DO YOU E-FILE RETURNS?

Yes, we e-file all tax returns.  The IRS requires the e-filing of all individual and trust returns and we also e-file business returns as it the safest and quickest way to ensure the IRS receives it.  Please make sure to return your e-file authorization forms as soon as you receive them to ensure timely filing of your return.  You can also upload your signed forms to the portal.

WHY DO YOU USE A PORTAL?

At Hollis & Honstein we value your trust in our commitment to keep your data safe and treat the security of your information as our number one priority.  We strive to stay on top of technological advances that can help our clients avoid data and identity theft.  Simply, a portal is an effective method of sharing sensitive information and files in a secure format between our firm and its clients.  It gives you on-demand access to your tax documents and allows you to send information to us quickly and securely.  You do not need any specific software to access your portal, just an internet connection.  If you are a current client, please contact us if you need more information on setting up your login information.  Also, please remember to download the NetClient CS mobile app for true anywhere, anytime access.
